Accreditation Stages Pathway

Make your way from Beginner to Stage 4 or go as far as you want, we have drop-in sessions for all stages.

1

Intro To Track

A great introduction to track cycling for beginners, no previous experience required. Riders will be given full instruction on how to control the fixed wheel bike and how to ride on the steeply banked wooden track. Stage 1 accreditation is awarded once a rider has met the criteria.

2

Beginner

Focuses on improving skills and confidence including the introduction of group riding and changing in a line. Stage 2 accreditation is awarded once a rider has met the criteria.

3

Improver

This stage refines group riding and introduces a range of drills to stretch a rider in both skills and fitness. Stage 3 accreditation is awarded once a rider has met the criteria.

4

Race Accreditation

Riders wishing to attend Newport Live track league will be required to attend a race accreditation session where race-specific skills will be assessed. This session will include race simulations and feedback from the coach.

Intro To Track (Stage 1)

Friday: 5 - 6pm

Monday: 7 - 8:30pm 
Cost: £16.20 includes bike and shoe hire.

The session can be used as a drop-in session by riders looking to gain confidence or practice their skills and techniques.

Race Accreditation (Stage 4)

Please call 01633 603094 or email customerservice@newportlive.co.uk for race accreditation dates.

Cost: £27 - riders must bring their own bike. 

 

Please note, riders wishing to take an accreditation test must have been approved by their coach from the previous stage or from attending drop-in sessions. It is not possible to book onto the accreditation unless this has taken place.

Drop-in Sessions for Adult Riders

These sessions are suitable for riders aged 14 and over. Sessions are bookable 7 days in advance.

Stage 2+

Easy Rider

This session is aimed at riders looking for an endurance session with a more relaxed atmosphere with less time spent on HIIT. 

Suitable for riders aged 14+.

Monday: 2 - 4pm

Beginner Session

An ideal drop-in session for those who have completed the Beginner (Stage 2) session and are looking to bed in skills and improve fitness before moving on to the Improver (Stage 3) session. 

The session can be used as a drop-in session for riders with Intro To Track (Stage 1) accreditation or by riders looking to gain confidence as well as practice their skills and techniques. 

Monday: 7:00 - 8:30pm
Cost: £16.20 includes bike and shoe hire.

An ideal drop-in session for those who have completed Beginner (Stage 2) and Improver (Stage 3) sessions and are looking to bed in skills and improve fitness before starting Stage 3 drop-in sessions or Race Accreditation (Stage 4).

Regular Riders

This is an ideal drop-in session for those who are looking to bed in skills and improve fitness before moving on to the next stage of their accreditation.

It can also be used as a drop-in session for more experienced riders.

Stage 3+

Improver Session

An ideal drop-in session for those who have completed Beginner (Stage 2) and Improver (Stage 3) sessions and are looking to bed in skills and improve fitness before starting Stage 3 drop-in sessions or Race Accreditation (Stage 4).

Lunchtime Drop-in

This session will be coach-led and focuses on endurance efforts. Sprint cyclists are welcome to attend and do their own efforts during the intervals.

Early Bird Drop-In

Whether you're after a good workout or are just looking for a steady ride around the track this session is suitable for riders who are looking to improve their fitness and skills in readiness for Race Accreditation (Stage 4).

Suitable for riders aged 14+.

Wednesday: 7 - 9am

Vets Club

A coached session for riders aged 35+ and women of any age that will focus on endurance efforts with some intensity efforts.

Sprinters are welcome during the summer months or if they have received clearance from the coach beforehand.

Stage 4+

Sprinter Derny

Motorbike-paced endurance and sprint efforts for experienced/accredited riders working at top-end speed. 

There is no track warm-up for this session and riders will therefore need to bring rollers for warming up and cooling down. Max gear for Sprint Derny 96 inches.

Endurance Derny

Motorbike-paced endurance and sprint efforts for experienced/accredited riders working at top-end speed.

Race Nights

Race Nights at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales include A league, Intro to Race league, and Masters 30+ for Men & Women (of all ages) league.
